A PRIVILEDGED MOMENT WITH MOTHER GENERAL

February 27-28, 2009 A Conference on LOCAL GOVERNMENT by Mother General, Mª. Inez Furtado

The participants in this encounter were the following: The Provincial Superior, the Provincial Secretary, and Provincial Econome, the Formation Team members, the Local Superiors, Vice Superiors and other sisters.

All 32 sisters were gathered in Colegio de la Hijas de Jesus, Iloilo City to dialogue with Mother General about Community life and the important role of the Local Government.

The encounter aimed to respond to the challenge of GC XVI #4 which is to revitalize the dimension of obedience-government in our life as Hijas de Jesus in order to animate and enhance the life of the Body in Mission.

Sr. Ma. Inez used as an analogy the “NETWORK” to describe the image of the government in the Congregation. At the core of the network is the general government, followed by provincial government and then the local government where reality is touched and experienced.

She emphasized that the three levels of government have to be in the same direction or else the network will be destroyed. There has to be a lot of relationships, communications, and information to be done in the network.

To help us enter into the process of dialogue, we were given time to talk to our Lord in prayer using the bible passages and articles for reflections which they have prepared. To facilitate the dialogue among sisters we were divided into four groups and shared our reflections on the article entitled Local Government. Sr. Ma. Inez listened to our reflections, doubts, insights, questionings, concerns and suggestions during the assemblies.  The sisters went back to their respective communities more clarified on many issues concerning our life and mission as a Body Congregation.
