AN ECHO OF THE MEETING OF
THE MEMBERS OF THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENTS OF JAPAN, TAIWAN AND THE PHILIPPINES

          On September 23-24, 2008, the members of the provincial governments of the Provinces of Japan, Taiwan and Philippines gathered together in Hayama, Japan to search for new ways of collaboration in Asia. We began by invoking the presence of the spirit as we sung:

RUAH, RUAH, ALIENTO DE DIOS EN NOSOTRAS.
RUAH, RUAH, ESPIRITU DE NUESTRO DIOS.

           The atmosphere of the meeting was very familial. A feeling that we all belong to the bigger family of the Hijas de Jesus permeated throughout the meeting.

What were our tasks?

          First, the group evaluated the plans of the previous provincial superiors of the three provinces on how they envisioned collaboration among the three Asian provinces. Sr. Isabel Romero, the Vice provincial superior of Japan Province moderated the first day. She clarified the doubts and questions presented by the group. The session helped all of us to situate and focus ourselves on the objectives of the meeting. We were challenged to seek and discern on how we can continue the work of collaboration among the three provinces in Asia. We were given time to reflect to see before the Lord the areas that need reinforcement and to seek other possibilities of collaboration that we can have in the future.

          As we dialogued, shared our doubts and concerns especially on Bangladesh and listened to the Spirit, something was re-awakened in us – OUR MISSIONARY SPIRIT! We realized that the zeal for the mission needs animation at this time. With the new foundation in Bangladesh we are challenged to go beyond our country, our provinces, our borders to make collaboration very possible.

          On the second day, Sr. Georgita Hormillosa, the Provincial superior of the Philippine province, was tasked to moderate the meeting. She listened to the sisters as we shared the areas that the three provinces in Asia find important and where collaboration deems very urgent. With her guidance we focused on six areas namely: Lay Volunteer Program, Lay formation, collaboration with the community in Bangladesh, Youth Ministry, Elderly Sisters, and the Encounter of the young perpetually professed sisters. We then moved to prioritize the 6 focal areas. As we allowed the Spirit (THE RUAH) to inspire and move us, we agreed to have Bangladesh as our first priority, followed by the Youth Ministry, Lay formation, elderly sisters, Lay Volunteer program and the last among our priorities is the encounter of the young perpetually professed sisters. After prioritizing these areas, we brainstormed on the concrete actions to give flesh to our desired goals. For Bangladesh we agreed to promote awareness and concern among the sisters of the three provinces on the existing needs of our community in Bangladesh. For the Philippine Province, the provincial superior will be sending her circular letters to the community in Maymensingh. We can also send them some formative and informative materials thru the electronic mail.  In this manner we go beyond the boundaries of our provinces and become more open to other possibilities of collaboration.

          On Lay formation, we agreed that each province will make its own LAY FORMATION PROGRAM. Furthermore, the Philippine Province will conduct an Educators’ Congress in May 2009 with defined contents and methodology focusing on the human person of Mother Foundress-her values, life, etc. The other two provinces are invited to join this Congress to be held in the Philippines.

          On Youth Ministry, a well defined program for youth ministry will be drafted by each province. Japan province will spearhead the preparation and planning of the Asian Youth Encounter-Exposure. The other two provinces are invited to send participants.

          On the elderly sisters, the group agreed that within three years we can organize a formative activity for them. We believe that this Asian encounter of our elderly sisters needs ample time for preparation to better profit from it.

          The last two priorities namely, the Lay volunteer Program and the encounter of the young perpetually professed sisters were reserved for further discernment.

           What does this meeting mean to me personally? I was very happy having been chosen to experience this work of collaboration with the other sisters from other provinces. It gave me the opportunity to experience in concrete the rich gift of universalism. I felt so enriched by the views and even of the culture of each participant in the meeting. I felt the enthusiasm to collaborate together with them to make our presence more felt in Asia. I may not be well-versed in Spanish but I was not afraid to express my opinion to the group. There was a deep sense of respect and acceptance for each one’s limitations. The meeting made me realize that I must not only think of the school where I am presently assigned nor of the province where I belong but I must go beyond all these and be concerned of other provinces’ needs for the building of the Kingdom. One better thing that happened to me in the meeting was to experience the Lord re-awakening in me the desire to be a missionary. I thank God for inspiring Sr. Georgette to bring me along with her to this enriching meeting in Japan.

ECO DEL ENCUENTRO DE LOS MIEMBROS
DE LOS CONSEJOS PROVINCIALES DE JAPÓN, TAIWAN Y FILIPINAS

El 23 y 24 de septiembre de 2008 miembros de los gobiernos provinciales de Japón, Taiwan y Filipinas, se encontraron en Hayama, Japón, para buscar nuevos caminos de colaboración en Asia. Empezamos invocando la presencia del Espíritu con la canción:

RUAH, RUAH, ALIENTO DE DIOS EN NOSOTRAS.
RUAH, RUAH, ESPÍRITU DE NUESTRO DIOS.

El ambiente del encuentro fué muy familiar. El sentimiento que todas pertenecemos a la gran familia de las Hijas de Jesús impregnó todo el encuentro.

¿Cúal fué nuestro trabajo?

Primero, el grupo evaluó los planes de las Superioras Provinciales anteriores de las tres Provincias, en cómo ellas concibieron la colaboración entre las tres provincias de Asia. Isabel Romero, la Viceprovincial de Japón hizo de moderadora el primer día. Clarificó las dudas y preguntas presentadas por el grupo. La sesión nos ayudó a todas a situarnos y enfocar los objetivos del encuentro. Se nos desafió a buscar y discernir como podemos continuar el trabajo de colaboración entre las tres Provincias de Asia. Se dió tiempo para reflexionar y ver delante del Señor las áreas que necesitan reinforzarse y buscar otras posibilidades de colaboración que se puedan tener en el futuro.

A medida que íbamos dialogando, compartiendo nuestras dudas y preocupaciones, especialmente sobre Bangladesh, y escuchando al Espíritu algo se despertó en nosotras -  NUESTRO ESPÍRITU MISIONERO! Nos dimos cuenta que el celo por la misión necesita animación en este momento. Con la nueva fundación de Bangladesh se nos desafía a ir más allá de nuestro país, nuestras provincias, nuestra fronteras para hacer posible la colaboración.

El segundo día hizo de moderadora Georgita Hormillosa, Superiora Provincial de Filipinas. Escuchó el compartir de las hermanas sobre los distintos campos en los que las tres Provincias consideran importantes y donde la colaboración se juzga más urgente.
Con la yuda de la moderadora se resumieron en seis áreas: Voluntariado Laico, Forma- ción de los laicos, colaboración con la comunidad de Bangladesh, Pastoral Juvenil, Hermanas de la Tercera Edad, y Encuentros de las hermanas jóvenes perpetuas. Después pasamos a priorizar estas 6 áreas.  Al ir dejando que el Espíritu (RUAH) nos inspirase y moviese nos pusimos de acuerdo en poner Bangladesh como nuestra primera prioridad, seguido de la Pastoral Juvenil, Formación de Laicos, Hermanas de la Tercera Edad, Voluntariado Laico y como última prioridad el Encuentro de las hermanas jóvenes perpetuas. Después de priorizar estas áreas, compartimos ideas sobre cosas concretas para dar cuerpo a nuestros objetivos deseados. Para Bangladesh acordamos promover entre las hermanas una mayor conciencia y preocupación por las necesidades de nuestra comunidad allí. Por lo que se refiere a Filipinas, la S.Provincial enviará sus cartas circulares a la comunidad de Bangladesh. Se le pueden enviar también algunos materiales formativos e informativos a través del correo electrónico. De esta manera salimos de los límites de nuestras provincias y nos abrimos más a otras posibilidades de de colaboración.

En la formación de Laicos, acordamos que cada provincia haría su propio PROGRAMA. Además, la Provincia de Filipinas va a tener un Congreso de Educadores en mayo de 2009 con contenido y metodología definida enfocado en la persona humana de la M. Fundadora, sus valores, vida, etc. Las otras dos provincias están invitadas  a participar en este Congreso.

En Pastoral Juvenil, cada provincia elaborará un programa bien definido. Japón encabezará la preparación y plan del Encuentro-Exposure de las jóvenes de Asia. Las otras dos Provincias están invitadas a enviar participantes.

Sobre las HH. de la Tercera Edad, el grupo estaba de acuerdo que en los tres próximos años se puede organizar una actividad formativa para ellas. Creemos que el encuentro de estas hermanas necesita tiempo para la preparación para que se puedan benefiar más de el.

Las últimas dos prioridades, Voluntariado Laico y el encuentro de las Jóvenes Perpetuas se dejó para un discernimiento posterior.

 

Reflexión personal:
¿Qué significó este encuentro para mí personalmente? Me dió mucha alegría el haber sido elegida para participar en la experiencia de este trabajo de colaboración con las hermanas de las otras provincias. Me dió la oportunidad de experimentar en concreto el gran don del universalismo. Me sentí muy enriquecida con las opiniones y también con la cultura de cada participante en el encuentro. Sentí el entusiasmo de colaborar con ellas para ayudar a que nuestra presencia en Asia se haga más visible. No hablo bien el español pero no tuve miedo de expresar mi opinión en el grupo. Hubo un gran respeto y aceptación de las limitaciones de cada una. El encuentro me hizo caer en la cuenta de que no debo pensar solo en la escuela donde estoy destinada ni siquiera en la provincia a la que pertenezco sino que tengo que ir más allá de todo esto y preocuparme de las necesidades de otras provincias por la extensión del Reino. Y algo mejor que me sucedió en el encuentro fué la experiencia del Señor reavivando en mí el deseo de ser misionera. Doy gracias a Dios por inspirar a Georgita en llevarme con ella a este encuentro tan enriquecedor en Japón.
