MAASIN CHRISTMAS EXPERIENCE

CHRISTMAS AGAPE WITH NEIGHBORHOOD
December 24, 2009

As a community we constantly desire to reach out to the less fortunate especially during the season of Christmas.  Although we have the difficulty finding the  financial means yet, we just continue to trust in God’s loving providence.  Surprisingly we received a cash gift intended for the community Christmas celebration.  We are happy about it but as a community we opted to celebrate it with one of our less fortunate neighbors. We agreed to have our lunch with the family of Mr. and Mrs. Onday by cooking a simple menu which we would share with them.  This family started to invite the other families in our vicinity. We didn’t know that those families around our residence are all their relatives  Somehow, we were worried because the food that we would prepare might not be enough for all.  But we were told not to worry since every family will share and bring what they can afford.   We were touched by their sense of fraternity as they wanted everyone to be included in this memorable celebration.  We were much edified by their deeds.  They value more the fraternal encounter than the food they can offer.

Activities during the program were geared towards getting to know more each other not only in names but more as persons and as family.  The Christmas message was given by Sr. Delia Pedroso emphasizing our social awareness; our present situations and being one in spirit with those who are victims of injustice, oppression and natural calamities.  After our agape and the program, we shared the shoes donated by Kalakbay.

CHRISTMAS PARTY IN ST. JAMES

Spirit of Christmas filled the air of St. James Catholic High School last December 17, 2009 where a school Christmas party was held. Everybody was solemnized first with a tableau presentation from the selected students of SJCHS from each year level, spearheaded by the Youth for Christ under the supervision of the principal Mrs. Cecilia B. Montefrio. It was then followed by gift giving to the Baby Jesus from each year level. Year I offered bar soap, year II dairy products, year III noodles and year IV canned goods. The faculty and staff showed their generosity too with their sugar and match sticks offering. The proceeds of these gifts will go to the outreach program recipients of SJCHS especially the indigent families of our students.
After the gift giving, fun replaced the feeling of peace and quiet joy because of the games facilitated by the non-advisers. The games included basag palayok, balloon dance and Christmas carol participated by 12 sections. Everybody yelled, shouted and some even fell on their feet brought by too much fun and excitement. Then, one of the most awaited parts of the party followed which was the giving of gift to the SP and eating together that made each section proceed to their respective rooms.
Truly, the spirit of sharing that resulted to joy was experienced by each Jamesian that day. It ended at 11:30 am. The faculty and staff had their own SP and lunch after the students finished theirs. Healthy relationship among the sisters, faculty and staff was strengthened in the afternoon of that day!
Definitely, it was a Merry Christmas!

FILE IN ACTION!

The FILE or the F.I. Lay Educators, who are one of the channels of Mother Candida’s charism and spirituality, persevere in making them truly alive in their own way of life and fulfilling their mission as educators.
FILE’s activities include constant tutorials to mentally deficient students and fund raising for the indigent families of the students; thus, their advocacy is promoting service and love.
Last December 23, 2009, 9:00 a.m., was another marvelous opportunity for the FILE to enliven more the call for generosity of service and love in the spirit of Christmas. The indigent families of the selected students from the different barangays of Maasin received grocery items from them as Christmas gift. The smiles, hugs and kisses from their recipients made them truly affirmed that the meaning of Christmas is not about receiving but in giving as a higher form.
This activity of the FILE was made in the presence of Mrs. Cecilia B. Montefrio, the principal and Sr. Delia Pedroso, F.I., the Directress.

Our Christmas celebration was very memorable.  Our neighbors whom we usually encounter daily and whom we would take for granted are now more like our real brothers and sisters and are concerned about us.  On our part we learned to appreciate them as persons and part of the family and friends. To our great surprise there were lots of extra food left. Every family brought home some for those who were left at home.

This activity brought out in us a beautiful fraternal relationship. They in turn have invited us to join in their family celebrations.
