MISSION MONTH at Sacred Heart School-Hijas de Jesus, Cebu City
SHS-HDJ Mission-Family Fair 2008
Written by: Ms. Jezebel Pescadero
Sacred Heart School – Hijas de Jesus celebrated its Mission -Family Fair last
October 26, 2008. It has become a yearly tradition in response to the missionary needs of the Church worldwide.
A well-attended Mission - family Fair 2008
This special day began at 7:30 with a Holy Mass in the school Auditorium which was filled to overflowing with students, parents, faculty and staff. Fr. Miguel Llamanzares presided and gave a very inspiring homily about the youth’s response to the Missions.

A simple yet very colorful presentation from the Elementary Department
A Field Demonstration followed after the Mass. It was held in the school’s background. The program was formally opened with the National Anthem and a message from
Sr. Armi Palijo, FI. The High School and Grade School Dance Club members danced to the tune of We are the Youth of the Nation to begin the presentation and ended it with their interpretation of the song Salamat. The first to demonstrate were the Pre-schoolers who amused everyone with their interpretation of the song Celebrate Jesus. The
Grade 5 followed with their dance on the beat of Shout for Joy; the Grade 3 with their All Together Now; the Grade 4 with their I Will Follow You; the Grade 1 with All for One; the Grade 2 with their SaYaweh and the Grade 6 in their Walk by Feet.
After the entertaining Field Demonstration which made the parents very proud of their
children’s abilities, everyone’s attention was moved to the biggest part of the day’s activity – fund raising for the Missions. This activity was made of different strategies that the teachers and students conceptualized in order to raise as much funds to help the Missions. There were different booths for food, school supplies, interests and hobbies, games, pet shop, tartanilla ride and many more which kept the whole family and guests enjoying each other’s presence the whole day.
The money that was raised on this day was all for the benefit of the Church’s mission to evangelize as our way of reciprocating a generous gesture more than fifty years ago, Sacred Heart School – HdJ being a recipient of the same fund in its beginnings.
At the end of the day, everyone was exhausted after such a big event. Yet you could see smiling faces everywhere. For the first time after so many years, Mission Family fair was not held as a contest as to which Grade or Year Level would be able to raise the highest income; and yet, this year, the same effort and enthusiasm was expressed. Everyone went home fulfilled knowing that they worked for and in union with the Church. Although we didn’t go out to preach the Good News, what we have contributed made each one of us a missionary. Mother Candida must have been very happy for all of us, as it was her desire “to go to the ends of the world in search for souls”.

CONTEMPLATING ON THE FACE OF JESUS WITH MARY
Written by: Erika Blanche Gocuan
The month of October ...another special time within the school year wherein the whole Sacred Heart School Hijas de Jesus community had the opportunity to come together to give importance to two different yet very closely linked entities of the Church. First, we especially remember and honor the Blessed Virgin Mary through the Holy Rosary; and second, we remember and help the Mission in a more intense and personal way. We pray the Holy Rosary for all the men and women in the world who continue to labor to make God known to His people.
Everyday this month, the whole student body came together in prayer as the mysteries of the rosary were recited throughout the day. The highlight, as always, was the celebration of the Living Rosary last October 9th, which had for its theme, “Contemplating on the Face of Jesus with Mary”. As it was a Thursday, the “Mysteries of Light” was prayed. Each bead of the rosary was represented by a member of the school’s educative community and each tried to dress in the costume of the country they represented. It was very symbolic! The following were our intentions for each Mystery:
