GENERAL CONSULTORS VISIT THE PHILIPPINE PROVINCE

Srs. Ma. Angeles Sebastian and Joy Salomo two of our General Consultors arrived in the Philippines last February 14, 2008. They were joyfully welcomed by the communities in the compound at Manresa Retreat House lobby. The two sisters, accompanied by Sr. Georgita Hormillosa, Provincial Superior visited the Sisters at Tahanan Candida, a few minutes after their arrival and then they had a good rest. The next day, Sr. Joy Salomo had an interview the Lay Missionary Volunteers of the Kalakbay ministry. Meantime, Sr. Ma. Angeles had a chance to see the houses in the compound.

They flew to Iloilo in the afternoon of February 15 for a lightning visit to the communities in Panay. Sr. Joy Salomo, who is in charge of the Transmission of our Spirituality to the Lay, was able to encounter the different lay groups in the centers, such as the FILE and LMV.

After a few days stay in Panay Island, they proceeded to Cebu where they met with the two communities of Sacred Heart School and St. Michael School in Argao respectively. Sr. Joy Salomo left Cebu to visit Cagayan de Oro City and Camiguin while Sr. Ma. Angeles stayed in Cebu City. On March 1, 2008, Sr. Ma. Angeles continued her visit as flew to Davao City to meet the sisters of Stella MAris Academy. Sr. Jocelyn Salomo meantime, left also for Davao via bus from Cagayan de Oro City. After a short visit there, they again left Mindanao for Parañaque City, then after two days, they proceeded to see the sisters in Nazareth School. And finally they came back to Manresa for a short rest and reflection of the whole experience.

During their last day in the country the sisters in the Manresa Compound treated the two sisters to a “despedida” get together. Sr. Ma. Angeles had a chance to share briefly her impression of her first visit to the country. She expressed her sentiments, of being touched and impressed most by the stark contrast between the rich and the poor in the country, and how she feels that the Hijas de Jesus, through our apostolate in the educative mission could narrow the gap between the two extreme realities in our society. Sr. Jocelyn on her part gave a summary of her encounter with the lay partners, and that we have already started this journey with them, and she encourages the Sisters to continue in this endeavor of imparting our spirituality and charism to them as they are our partners in the mission. The two Consultors left for Taiwan the next day.
