VISIT TO ST. JAMES CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL, MAASIN, ILOILO

February 16, 2009 was a memorable  event  for  the students, faculty and staff  of St. James Catholic High School. The most awaited moment has come, the visit of Mo. General, Ma. Inez Furtado accompanied by  her General Consultor, Sr. Jocelyn Salomo. A simple but  very warm and familial  welcome was tendered to them after the morning prayer and flag ceremony. Mrs. Mercy Alagos, President of the Faculty and Mr. Sanny Andiano, President of the St. James Catholic High School Student  Government conveyed their welcome message to them. Mrs. Alagos  expressed her profound   gratitude  to Mo. General for the evangelizing of the Hijas de Jesus Congregation in the town of Maasin which, as she stressed, had greatly influenced the life of the people in Maasin in terms of  the living out of the Christian values. On the other hand, Sanny Andiano, expressed his admiration for the beautiful mission that the Hijas de Jesus  is realizing in this particular reality and he thanked Mo. General for the integral Christian formation that  St. James Catholic High School imparts to them.

Mo. General in her message to the students  expressed  her  joy and satisfaction for the great love and devotion that the people of Maasin have for Mo. Foundress. She encouraged the students to continue keeping alive the love of Mo. Foundress  for the poor or marginalized. She also underscored the importance of  the living out  the Christian values that they have learned. She ended her talk by giving the assignment to the whole student body to locate in the map the countries where the Hijas de Jesus are present.

General and Sr. Joy from student and teacher representatives in different languages- English, Spanish, Filipino and the local dialect, a dance number from selected students and the giving of bouquet and special products of the place.  They were also introduced to the priests of the parish where the school and the community belongs.  In the afternoon of February 19, Srs. Rosa, Joji and Rosie conducted Mo. General and Sr. Joy to the community of the Hijas de Jesus in Estancia, Iloilo

She took time out to visit some classes and meet with children during break hours...

Community encounter with Mother General

Mother General's visit was like a special visit by our Lord Jesus in our community, bringing us joy and a challenge needing greater responsibility as members of the one body Congregation.  It led us to an inner joy knowing that our personal as well as communitarian and apostolic paschal life was listened to and given home, ushering us to a deeper appreciation of spiritual governance for the growth of the whole body and all for the mission.  It led us also to take a stand for an even greater commitment to what it means to be an Hija de Jesus today especially, "to love (the Congregation) as it is, assuming its life and reality in its entirety and giving her whole being to God in it.  To make use of the means to grow in affective and effective belonging to the Congregation and manifest her being a member in all that she is and does." (EURF # 1) Truly, with the Blessed Mother, our hearts magnify the Lord!

VISIT OF MO. GENERAL MA. INEZ FURTADO WITH GENERAL CONSULTOR,SR. JOCELYN SALOMO TO ESTANCIA

Everyone in the Community was very excited to see the General
Superior, Ma. Inez Furtado, and the General Consultor, Sr. Joy Salomo.
Everyone was waiting…

A welcome dance by the students

It was almost 3:00 o’clock in the afternoon of February 19, 2009 when
Sr. Inez and Sr.  Joy arrived. We, the educative community, welcomed them with joy and simplicity. Right after the simple snacks, Mo. General and Sr. Joy with the Sisters, roamed around the school and visited the teachers’ dormitory. It was a very good experience for us to be with the General in our prayer and recreation. We shared our life and mission with simplicity and transparency.

A pose with the community while walking on the school grounds

The attention given by the General to the Sisters is remarkable too.
She spent the second day of her visit in dialoguing with the Sisters,
personal and communitarian. There was a spirit of openness and
acceptance to our limitations and growth as we shared our life and
mission. She went around to see the reality of our neighbors and of
the town. She had seen people, and different kinds and sizes of fishes
as we brought her to the fishing port. She, in her simplicity, gave
smile to the people she met.

They left our Community at 1:00 o’clock of February 21. Their deep
solidarity with our mission here in Estancia is palpably felt. Their
visit was too short, but strengthens our bond as community and
commitment to the mission.

We see a better future as we together face and accept the challenges
being offered here in Estancia.

Estancia is a fishing area. The picture above shows fishermen gathering their catch for the day. Mother General visited this place.
