SACRED HEART SCHOOL NEWS 2009

Sacred Heart School-Hijas de Jesús’
GRADE TWO FIRST HOLY COMMUNION
Mrs. Rose Lofranco

The Holy Mass is a celebration of Jesus’ special meal and sacrifice. Christ instituted the Last Supper so that all who shared in His Body & Blood might become one body with Him. During Holy Communion we receive Jesus, our Bread of Life, thus Communion deepens our Catholic faith.

In line with this, the 57 boys and 74 girls of Sacred Heart School Hijas de Jesús received Jesus for the first time last December 5, 2009 at the Sacred Heart Parish Church in Jakosalem St., Cebu City. The boys were in their barong & black pants & girls in white gala dress with head dress. The event began at 8:00am with Rev. Fr. Jason Dy, SJ as the presider. He is an alumnus of Kong Hua School, Cagayan de Oro City. Everything went smoothly. Fr. Jason was assisted by our Grade 5 acolytes & our Grade 2 First Communicants sang with joy for the occasion.

In his homily, Fr. Jason related the story about a man taking care of two parrots in a cage. He would do this every day with dedication & thought that this made the parrots happy but they weren’t. The parrots wanted the freedom to spread their wings.

Fr. Jason used this story in the beginning to challenge the First Communicants not only to focus on who they are now but to try to widen their horizon. He also told them that they have a responsibility to grow in their relationship with Christ – now that they have received Him & for this to have an effect on others. He also reminded the parents & god-parents to help the First Communicants grow in their spiritual life.

We thank God for the gift of these 131 First Communicants. May they also draw others closer to Christ as they receive Him in the sacrament of the Eucharist.

SHARING THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT THE SACRED HEART SCHOOL-HIJAS DE JESUS WAY
Mrs. Emerita Villaver

ALAY KAPATID 2:
Last December 11, 2009, 636 pupils from Camputhaw Elementary School & 360 pupils from SHS-FI got together for the outreach activity called ALAY KAPATID II. This activity happens every year & for this year, the pupils concerned viewed a film about Christmas then interacted with each other & played some games. Ninety-eight SHS-FI high school volunteers facilitated the activities & even 21 Camputhaw Elementary School & 17 SHS-FI faculty & staff members had fun interacting with each other.

It was indeed a fulfilling afternoon knowing that this was another God-given opportunity for us to grow in the values of generosity, service and being in solidarity with our Camputhaw Elementary School brothers and sisters who went home with their “Pails of Joy.”

BADJAO TRIBE

Last   December 1, 2009 was a joyful surprise to the Badjaos since assorted food items like rice, noodles, canned goods were handed over to their chieftain Felicito Asamsa and Sr. Evelyn Flanagan, a Presentation sister in-charge of the Badjaos, for distribution by Miss Rissa Go, the Student Council president. With her were the Principal, High School Assistant Principal, Student & Outreach Activity Coordinators, 9 new teachers & the other Student Council officers of SHS-FI.

Last December 19, 2009, the principal, High School Assistant Principal, Student Activity & Outreach Activity Coordinators, 9 new teachers & Student Council officers, distributed the Noche Buena Pack to 97 families in Barangay Inayawan. While there, the Student Council Officers organized games & fun activities for the children. Prizes were given to the winning teams. Indeed, it was fun for the children and the facilitators, and the spirit of Christmas was very much felt in their hearts.
